In our
teaching practicum, we use some of the tools that were describe in chapter
nine. Each one of us used different tools, but the purpose was the same, to
make our students learn.
Puppets: George, Tatiana and Rose used
puppets to introduce a new topic. Puppets were like a Coach- teacher. Students
paid careful attention to what the puppet said, and they were interesting in
the Coach- teacher because it made them laugh a lot with his strange voice. The
puppet really called students attention.
Flash cards: is the tool that
everybody always uses with learners at kindergarten, and there are a large sort
of activities and games a teacher can use in teaching practices. For revising
vocabulary, for example, Diego split students into 2 teams which stand in a row,
he showed a flash card with an object. The first learner who names the object
correctly gets a flash card. At the end of the game the team with the most
flash cards wins.
Paper dolls: Sandy used this tool
as controlled practice, students were very enthusiastic and interesting on the
topic (body parts). First Sandy introduced the new vocabulary to her students,
then she presented the paper doll that was about a girl cut into pieces, the
children had to place every part of the body in the right place.
There are three chapters we would incorporate in our own practicum could be the Classroom Management and Atmosphere, Topic-based Work and Planning Your Work.
We think that they would work better according to our personality and the way we know we're able to give a class to young learners. They are more suitable for our working style and for performing a class in a more effective manner.
